Job Title:                                 Dean of Students

 

Supervisor:                              Principal and Assistant Principal

 

Requirements:

 

  1. Education Level:               Master’s Degree in Elementary or Secondary

Education, higher education or educational-related

field with preferred experience in student leadership or mentoring.

 

  1. Experience:                       Minimum of three (3) years of successful educational

experience or prior job related experience with increasing levels of responsibilities in an educational setting. 

 

  1. Other Requirements:        Must have a valid North Dakota Teaching License.

 

Knowledge in implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and 504 Plans.

 

Possess effective student management skills as it relates to scheduling, discipline, and assessment. 

 

Possess management, organization, and leadership skills, including the ability to initiate and flow through on ideas and projects. 

 

Possess effective oral and written communication skills.

 

Communicate effectively with individuals of varied cultural and educational backgrounds.

 

Ability to be flexible in working with students at all developmental levels.

 

Skills in human relations and conflict management.

 

Knowledge of teaching techniques that meet the diverse needs of students.

Training in assessment and interpretation of data.

 

Must have a valid Driver’s License.

 

Must pass a background check in accordance with the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, Public Law 101-630.

 

Must submit to a pre-employment Drug Test.

 

Indian and Veteran’s Preference considered.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

 

Assists the Principal in the development and delivery of a safe educational environment.  Establish positive relationships with students, parents, administrators, staff members and outside agencies.  Assists with the school building administration in the implementation of the Code of Student Conduct, and processing the day-to-day minor infractions.

 

  1. Monitor daily operation of the attendance office, to include but not limited to: daily attendance, tardiness, truancy, etc.  Serve as the administrative liaison between the registrar and attendance clerk.
  2. Refer more complex attendance problems to the appropriate administrator or home-school liaison.  Assist with the processing of discipline referrals from building staff.  Assign appropriate consequence (excluding out-of-school suspension).  Notify parents and staff regarding disciplinary consequences.  Coordinate in-school suspension, detention, and Saturday school.
  3. Refer significant issues/problems to the building principal/administrator.
  4. Manage conflicts involving students, discipline issues, and enforce school behavioral expectations per school policy.  
  5. Develop bus, playground, and lunch supervision schedules and assist with supervision as needed.
  6. Manage school bus referrals and administer consequences if needed.
  7. Assist with drug/alcohol interventions and/or investigations.
  8. Direct in-school suspension (ALC monitoring).
  9. Support the school’s instructional and after-school supplemental programs.
  10. Effectively analyze problems, issues, and concerns, and formulate appropriate alternative solutions. 
  11. Participate in ongoing professional growth activities. 
  12. Work collaboratively with all staff in the development of family engagement activities. 
  13. Monitor and comply with district policies and procedures.
  14. Collaborate with the principals and other administrative staff for emergency preparedness.  Under the direction of the principal, coordinate with law enforcement personnel in emergency drills, as appropriate. 
  15. Conducts duties and responsibilities in accordance with the SRCGS Policies and Procedures.
  16. Performs additional duties deemed necessary as assigned by the Supervisor.
