Job Description
The Laborer / Fiber Optic Underground Utility Construction Technician will assist with installation, maintenance, relocation, and repair of undergroundconstruction including potholing, cleanup, and helping with the installing new product. Training for theLaborer / Fiber Optic Underground Utility Construction Technician is provided. Monday - Friday. 40hrs / week minimum. OT higher through peak summer months. This is a full time, benefited position. Layoffs will occur for approximately two months out of the year during which time benefits can be pre-paid so as to not lose coverage.

JOB PURPOSE:

The Laborer / Fiber Optic Underground Utility Construction Technician supports and assists underground construction crews with the installation, maintenance, relocation, and repair of underground telecommunications network infrastructure.

KEY FUNCTIONS:
  • Conduct manual labor activities including but not limited to, digging trenches/holes with shovel, exposing existing underground utilities, greasing equipment, maintaining a clean and safe work zone.
  • Responsible for the installation of utility pedestals, cabinets, and hand holes.
  • Responsible for material handling to include conduit, fiber/cable pulling and installation.
  • Responsible for performing site restoration and cleanup activities, including but limited to grade preparation, black dirt, seeding, and concrete restoration.
  • Responsible for operation of light duty equipment to include skid steer, hydro-vacuum, jackhammer, concrete saw, power tamper.
  • Maintain safe working habits/conditions according to all regulations, procedures, and policies.
  • Responsible for setting up safety perimeter using signage, cones, and safety barriers.
  • Possess knowledge of company safety program, practice and enforce safety rules and procedures to ensure the safety of our employees and our communities. Wear safety apparel which includes but is not limited to hard hats, safety vests, and OSHA approved boots.
  • Operate and drive a Company vehicle in accordance with company’s “Use of Vehicle for Company Business” policy.

  • Adhere to company privacy guidelines to ensure each customer’s privacy.
  • Maintain regular attendance as required by your position.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Experience in the installation of telecommunications infrastructure preferred.
  • Working knowledge of construction, the National Electrical Code, OSHA regulations, state and local regulations and general safety standards.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or carry loads of up to 84 lbs.
  • The noise level in the work environment is moderate/high.
  • Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time and maneuver in small areas.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. The employee must be able to work in an outdoor environment year around in all weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock, radiation, and vibration.
  • Employees may be required to work more than 40 hours per week and other than normal business hours, such as holidays, evenings, and weekends as business demands.
  • The employee could be required to travel up to 50% of flexible scheduled hours.
